Each of the businesses that made the list achieved impressive growth against the turbulent backdrop of rising prices, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightpearl.com\/supply-chain\">supply chain<\/a> struggles and wavering consumer demand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the brands that ranked from first to tenth place made extraordinary progress, registering a combined revenue of \u00a3\u200b\u200b103,097,623 for 2021, and an average growth rate of 309%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Analysis: London-led, Tech-powered, customer-focussed<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what do the top 10 UK-based brands on the Lightning 50 have in common?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The top 10 is dominated by the brands based in <\/span><b>London<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (with three out of five of the top five brands operating from the capital) but the <\/span><b>North West is the hottest region for e-commerce<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this year, with three North West-based brands in the top 10 (and five in the full list)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The top two fastest growing brands in the UK are in the <\/span><b>sports, hobbies and leisure sector. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are also three brands from the <\/span><b>healthy &amp; beauty<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sector and three <\/span><b>apparel, fashion and footwear<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> brands.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every brand on the top 10 has flagged the <\/span><b>invaluable role that technology plays in driving their growth<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013\u00a0from using Brightpearl as their Retail Operating System to using Shopify to run their webstore and Klaviyo to manage their email marketing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightpearl.com\/blog\/10-top-tips-for-providing-world-class-customer-service\">Customer service<\/a> counts \u2013\u00a0the top 10 brands have an <\/span><b>average Trustpilot rating of 4.5.<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sara Arthrell, VP of Product at Brightpearl,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> says the percentage growth increases for the brands in the top 10 of this year\u2019s Lightning 50 are astronomical.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sara says: \u201cLondon leads the way, but it\u2019s fascinating to see the North West is the hottest region for e-commerce growth this year \u2013\u00a0giving the capital a run for its money.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe top 10 results also clearly prove that great customer service and a slick, flexible tech stack are absolutely critical for brands that want to grow fearlessly. It uses precision-engineered technology so that anyone can enjoy 10 pints of award-winning Fresh Beer at home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Listed in Time magazine\u2019s 100 Best Inventions of 2020, Pinter sells everything you need to start Fresh Brewing directly to its customers via its website and app. No water is shipped which cuts the transit weight by 75%, resulting in huge CO2 emissions savings \u2013 a single Pinter Pack replaces 17 bottles or cans of beer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rapidly-growing brand won the top spot on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightpearl.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lightning 50<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> UK after achieving a staggering 626% leap in revenue in 2020-21. A combination of great tech tools, including a Shopify-powered webstore, slick Facebook marketing and the nature of being the first product of its kind has helped drive the brand\u2019s success.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Head of PR and Partnerships, Alexander King, says:\u00a0 \u201cFacebook is our top performing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightpearl.com\/sales-channel-strategy\">sales acquisition channel<\/a> with the lowest CPA. The brand has earned a solid reputation for its \u2018adventure first, product second\u2019 philosophy and its mission to help people escape everyday life and enjoy their own journey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After growing rapidly (it achieved 362% growth in 2020-21), the brand was keen to boost visibility and bring its operations together into a central source of truth. It was drawn to Brightpearl for its robust, customizable functionality and its range of out-of-the-box integrations. It operates a popular online store alongside physical stores in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alicia Thompson says: \u201cOur marketing content and building of our community, alongside curating the most premium and rare, sold-out sneakers from around the globe has helped us achieve this growth. There has also been a shift in fashion trends towards streetwear and sneakers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur online sales are driven through direct, organic search and paid search via Google and social. YouTube has been a key technology for us \u2013\u00a0we use it to host longer-form marketing films and content.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>5. <a href=\"https:\/\/wearewild.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wild Cosmetics Limited<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><b>UK\u2019s Fastest Growing Health &amp; Beauty Brand\u00a0 | Top 10 Finalist | Revenue growth: 322%<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wild is the world&#8217;s first compostable refill natural deodorant that is fully sustainable. It\u2019s delivered straight to the doors of customers based on a subscription model (with the option of one-off purchasing) and is powered by a slick Shopify website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The London-based brand was crowned the UK\u2019s Fastest Growing Health &amp; Beauty Brand and awarded fifth place on the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/brightpearl.com\/lightning50\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lightning 50<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> UK after achieving 322% growth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Head of Finance Arthur Edson says: \u201cWe\u2019ve diversified our channel mix and targeted our spending towards the highest value customer cohorts which has helped drive growth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019ve also expanded into Europe and focussed on upselling and bundling items to increase average order value. Our key technologies have been Shopify, Instagram, Facebook and Google.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>6. <a href=\"http:\/\/uk.naturecan.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Naturecan<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><b>Top 10 Finalist | Revenue growth: 220%<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Naturecan was founded in May 2019 by Andy Duckworth, the former CEO of Myprotein. It\u2019s a global wellness brand focused on offering safe, effective and premium hemp-derived CBD products as well as additional supplements such as vitamins and minerals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The North West-based brand grew by 220% in the last 12 months, and acknowledges <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightpearl.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brightpearl<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Instagram and Shopify as the tech tools that have helped them achieve it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CEO and Co-Founder Andy Duckworth says: \u201cGreat people, strong marketing and a focus on our supply chain have also helped us grow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>7. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naturewall.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Naturewall Group Ltd<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><b>UK\u2019s Fastest Growing DIY &amp; Gardening Brand\u00a0 | Top 10 Finalist | Revenue growth: 211%<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The highest ranked DIY and gardening brand on this year\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightpearl.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lightning 50<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is NatureWall with a 211% growth rate. It\u2019s especially well known for its \u2018world-class\u2019 range of hoodies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The DTC brand sells online via a Shopify-powered webstore and also has physical \u2018clubhouses\u2019 in Liverpool, Belfast and Manchester. The multichannel brand grew by 169% to bag tenth place on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightpearl.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lightning 50<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> UK, and reports that Shopify, Klaviyo and its logistics partners have played a crucial role in its success.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Co-founder Diarmuid McSweeney says: \u201cA steady flow of new customers from a number of channels has helped \u2013 but there is much more to Gym+Coffee than digital performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have built the brand around our community, we engage with them through events, partnerships,\u00a0 at our retail clubhouses and via our digital content.
