Plus a 10,000% online revenue <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">growth, jumping from \u00a324K in 2019 to more than \u00a32.5 million in 2020 &#8211; but also for the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">astonishing story behind its rapid rise to success.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Triple-crown winner<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As well as taking the title of Overall Winner, Au Vodka was also awarded Winner in the Luxury Sector and Regional Winner for Wales.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI entered the Lightning 50 on a bit of a whim, not expecting to win,\u201d said Jordan Major, Head of e-Commerce at Au Vodka.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThen I got on with other stuff and kind of forgot about it. So when the call came in to say we\u2019d won not one but three titles, I was absolutely buzzing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI ran in to tell the rest of the team and they all started cheering &#8211; it was a real moment for us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019re always working hard towards our next launch or next goal, so we\u2019ve barely come up for air in two years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWinning the Lightning 50 has given us the chance to step back for a brief moment and see that we\u2019ve achieved something that\u2019s pretty awesome.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Raising the bar<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Au Vodka was created by Jackson Quinn and Charlie Morgan who spotted a gap in the market when their friends kept getting the same \u2018boring\u2019 brands of vodka for their 18th birthdays.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At first, the duo made just 2,000 bottles and sold them to local bars and pubs. Then they started to gain traction on social media.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With its trademark shiny gold bottle and vodka that\u2019s colored to match a range of flavors including watermelon and black grape, Au Vodka quickly became the must-have drink for top Instagrammers and Tiktok creators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The brand then caught the attention of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0DJ, producer and TV presenter, Charlie Sloth &#8211; who loved it so much he offered to invest and become a business partner.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThings really blew up for us in 2019 when Charlie came on board,\u201d said Jordan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCharlie helped us get endorsements from UK rappers and celebrities, including the likes of Headie One, Chip and Nines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe then launched our Black Grape flavor, and we colored the vodka itself to match &#8211; which was something that hadn\u2019t really been done with vodka before. It was a huge success.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThen, earlier this year, we had our biggest endorsement yet &#8211; from boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. Floyd is a hero of ours, so it was a really surreal moment to see him holding bottles of Au Vodka.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>No single measures<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A combination of the endorsements from Floyd and other A-listers, including Stormzy and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ronaldinho, plus increased consumer demand during the pandemic has taken the brand\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">growth from impressive to incredible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With its revenue set to hit more than \u00a35 million online this year and \u00a395 million overall Au Vodka <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is now the biggest vodka brand in the UK, excluding Smirnoff, and expects to sell in excess of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">five million bottles in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Retailing at \u00a336.99 for 70cl, the \u2018ultra premium\u2019 vodka is filtered through gold, for a unique <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">smooth taste. It\u2019s primarily sold wholesale to big-name stockists, including Tescos, Morrisons, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Costco and Booker, but it also has a strong e-commerce base, selling direct to consumers <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">across the world via its Shopify-powered website.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked about the secret behind the brand\u2019s success, Jordan credits the extraordinary <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">commitment of its talented, young team. Incredibly, almost every member of its 55-strong staff is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">under 30.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jordan said: \u201cOur team has got youth on its side &#8211; Jackson is 28, Charlie is 25, I\u2019m 20 and all the other heads of department are in their twenties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think our collective youth has definitely helped us tap into what our target demographic wants &#8211; and to then have the energy and vision to make it happen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen orders have spiked, as they did during the pandemic, it\u2019s been all hands on deck with lots of us doing our day jobs until 6pm and then packing orders until the early hours of the morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s been really hard work &#8211; but, as well as being young, we\u2019re a solid team of like-minded, ambitious people and we always pull together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI really think that\u2019s played a big part in driving such rapid growth.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Shot to success\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Co-founder Charlie was already well known in Swansea before Au Vodka. He hit the headlines in 2013 when he was a ball boy at a Swansea v Chelsea match, and ended up getting kicked by Chelsea hero Eden Hazard, who then got a red card.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But it\u2019s his and Jackson\u2019s five-times distilled vodka creation that has catapulted them from everyday 20-somethings to global business leaders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The business currently uses Shopify\u2019s own back office features and in house solutions for its primary tech stack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, like many fast-growing businesses, Au Vodka has experienced issues with lack of manpower and stock-outs during peak demand periods &#8211; so a flexible, robust retail operations platform like <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/brightpearl.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brightpearl<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> could help boost the brand\u2019s success even further in the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy advice to any business that wants to follow in our footsteps is to go for it &#8211; and just keep pushing,\u201d Jordan added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnd I\u2019d absolutely recommend entering next year\u2019s Lightning 50 &#8211; I\u2019m certainly glad we did!
