Last month,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/small-business-network\/2016\/dec\/15\/hidden-cost-e-commerce-online-shopping-entrepreneurs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Guardian posted a great piece<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the hidden costs of ecommerce businesses, analyzing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/home.barclays\/news\/spend-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barclaycard\u2019s data report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and highlighting customer returns as a revenue and operational threat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key statistics to call out were that 30% of shoppers are earning the badge of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightpearl.com\/blog\/worst-uk-region-for-serial-returners-infographic\">\u2018serial returner\u2019<\/a>; someone who deliberately over-purchases and then returns many items. In an attempt to safeguard themselves against this reality, 33% of online retailers offer free returns but charge for delivery, and 20% are hiking their prices to cover return costs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whatever your current or future plan may be to process or negate return costs, what can you do with the information and data collected during\u00a0inevitably unavoidable returns? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here&#8217;s 3 tips to make the most of your returns data&#8230;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.25rem; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Helvetica, Roboto, 'Segoe UI', Arial, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>1. Identify your serial returners<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use sales reporting, such as Brightpearl\u2019s Sales Analysis reports, to identify customers that have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brightpearl.com\/blog\/high-growth-ecommerce-webinar\">high return rate<\/a>.
